DESIGN / HIGHLIGHTS
Powerful yet refined. Taurus design features a sophisticated and refined look inside and out. Crisp lines combined with an aerodynamic shape convey motion, even when the vehicle is parked. Open the door and you’ll see an interior rich in details and quality materials. There’s no question Taurus attracts attention wherever it goes. Unique Taurus SHO Grille: Dynamic, angular lines draw your eye to the bold SHO grille. Pictured is the Taurus SHO grille with its unique Piano Black mesh design.
These wheels complement the sporty look of Taurus.
• 20-inch machined aluminum low gloss wheels, optional on Taurus SEL, Limited and SHO
• 20-inch polished aluminum, optional on Taurus Limited
• 20-inch machined aluminum with painted pockets, standard on Taurus SHO
Comfort and style come together.
The interior of Taurus combines style and comfort with fine craftsmanship. Soft-touch, high-quality materials are used throughout the cabin. Available amenities include a heated steering wheel, heated and cooled front seats and heated outboard rear seats for passengers. To help reduce driver muscle fatigue in the legs and lower back, your Taurus can be equipped with front multicontour seats with Active Motion. And if you enjoy listening to music, Taurus can be equipped with an available Audio System from Sony with HD Radio Technology
Torque Vectoring Control and Curve Control
Torque Vectoring Control and Curve Control,39 standard on all Taurus models, are two components of AdvanceTrac® with electronic stability control (ESC). Torque Vectoring Control uses the braking system to imitate the effect of a torque vectoring differential. In particular, when accelerating through corners, it applies braking to the front inside wheel, so more of the engine torque goes to the outside wheel, which has more grip. Curve Control will slow your vehicle when it senses that you’re going too fast into a particular curve. Employing throttle reduction and four-wheel braking intervention, it’s always active in helping you maintain control.
Wide and Assertive Stance.
From its wide stance and sporty design cues, Taurus makes a powerful statement. The bold grille complements the distinctive front end. Adding to that look are signature LED lamps and sculpted lines that communicate motion even when Taurus is parked.
Exclusive to the Taurus SHO are high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps that give Taurus a premium look. In the automatic position, when you turn on your windshield wipers, the headlamps are activated. Lamps automatically come on when ambient light is low enough.
Light-Emitting Diode (LED) Taillamps
Full light-emitting diode (LED) taillamps not only are sharp in appearance, but also illuminate faster and are brighter than conventional incandescent bulbs. They also consume less energy and are standard on all Taurus models.
Taurus offers a distinct rear spoiler on the high-performance SHO model. While definitely sporty-looking, its aerodynamic properties help contribute to stability.
Chrome-Tipped Dual Exhaust
A chrome-tipped dual exhaust system adds a sporty flair to the sculpted rear lines of the Taurus SE, SEL and Limited models. SHO is engineered with a dual exhaust system – each of the engine’s two exhaust manifolds has its own exhaust pipe, reducing back pressure and enhancing horsepower.
Quality and Craftsmanship
Craftsmanship is evident in the use of soft-touch, high-quality materials throughout the cabin, including cloth-wrapped front, center and rear pillars. And for that sense of quiet comfort, Taurus features insulation in the engine compartment as well as the cabin to isolate engine and external noise to provide you and your passengers with an enjoyable ride.
Heated Steering Wheel
On cold winter days, you’ll appreciate the available heated steering wheel. To turn it on, simply click the icon on the eight-inch touch screen. The final touch – an available power-tilt/telescoping steering column can be adjusted to accommodate your optimal driving position.
Heated and Cooled Front Seats
Both you and your front passenger can enjoy year-round comfort in the available heated or cooled front seats with three comfort settings.
Multicontour Front Seats with Active Motion®
The available multicontour driver and front-passenger seats feature seven seat bottom and lumbar air cushions. These seats were designed to help reduce driver muscle fatigue in the legs and lower back by changing the contour of the seat back and seat bottom. Lumbar air chambers in the seat back and seat bottom provide a subtle rolling pattern for additional comfort.
Heated Outboard Rear Seats
Rear passengers don’t have to take a back seat when it comes to comfort with available second-row heated seats for rear outboard seat passengers. All Taurus models come with standard rear-seat vents.
SHO is all about performance. That theme is reflected inside the vehicle as well. Features include:
• Available leather-trimmed seats with Miko® inserts and SHO embroidery
• Aluminum pedals
• Woven aluminum appliqué
• Floor mats with SHO embroidery
• Leather-wrapped steering wheel
• SHO and EcoBoost® badging
Exclusive SHO Seats
The choice is yours in the high-performance Taurus SHO: leather-trimmed seats in Charcoal Black or with Mayan Gray Miko® inserts, both with an embroidered SHO logo on the front seats. An extended thigh-support cushion and the bolster contour help provide added comfort. The soy-based seat cushions, seat backs and the four-way adjustable (up/down/tilt) headrests are supportive and comfortable as well as environmentally friendly.
Available Ambient Lighting
Ambient lighting features light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that illuminate the front and rear footwells, door handles and two front cupholders. Scroll through and select the color you want – Ice Blue®, orange, soft blue, red, green, blue or purple. There are also five dimmer levels to adjust the intensity of the light.
Intelligent AWD sensors balance torque between the front and rear wheels to enhance handling and maximize traction, typically before wheelslip can even occur. Standard on SHO and optional on SEL and Limited.
Electric Power-Assisted Steering
EPAS is powered by an electric motor instead of a hydraulic pump that draws power from the engine. What’s more, since it is speed-sensitive, EPAS can help correct for road irregularities and improve steering feel. EPAS also features pull-drift compensation, technology that helps you offset vehicle pulling or drifting that can occur in crosswinds or on uneven roads.
Six-Speed SelectShift® Automatic with Shifter Button Activation
Taurus SE, SEL and Limited models feature the six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with shifter button activation that lets you override automatic operation and enjoy the sporty performance feel of a manual with total control over gear selection. Taurus SHO has race-inspired steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters for changing gears easily and quickly.
2.0L EcoBoost® Engine
The available 2.0L EcoBoost engine has an EPA-estimated rating of 29 hwy mpg. It combines direct injection and turbocharging with twin independent variable-camshaft timing (Ti-VCT). The result is 240 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque, performance you would expect from a larger engine. Available on SE, SEL and Limited models.
3.5L EcoBoost® Engine
Taurus SHO is equipped with a standard 3.5L EcoBoost engine. It combines two different technologies – turbocharging and direct injection. It generates 365 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque across a wide 1,500-5,000 rpm range.
The standard 3.5L engine delivers a robust 288 horsepower. It has an EPA-estimated rating of 27 highway mpg. Twin independent variable camshaft timing controls when the valves open and close to enhance overall performance, while also enabling variable valve overlap for improved fuel economy.
Important safety features stay activated, such as the Belt-Minder® warning chime, until the safety belts are buckled. The audio system sound volume also remains muted. MyKey can be set to place limits on maximum speed and audio volume. Low-fuel warnings are displayed in the message center, followed by a chime when fuel level reaches an eighth of a tank.
Available Lane-Keeping System
The available Lane-Keeping System10 includes both the lane-keeping alert and the lane-keeping aid. The system can operate during the day or night. Lane-keeping alert warns you through a series of steering wheel vibrations, which mimic driving over a rumble strip, should the system detect an unintentional lane departure. Lane-keeping aid actively applies steering torque, which alerts you to direct your vehicle back into the target lane should the system detect an unintended lane departure. The system is available on Taurus Limited and SHO models.
BLIS® with Cross-Traffic Alert
The available BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with cross-traffic alert uses radar in the rear quarter panels to detect a vehicle entering your blind spot and alerts you with an indicator light in the sideview mirror.
Intelligent Access with Push-Button Start
Starting Taurus is a breeze, thanks to available Intelligent Access with push-button start. With the key fob in your pocket or handbag, simply open the driver’s door — no key is needed. Once inside, press the brake pedal and then the start button, shift into gear and go. Intelligent Access with push-button start is standard on Taurus Limited and SHO, and available on Taurus SEL.
Available Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning with Brake Support
Available adaptive cruise control10 functions just like normal cruise control, with one exception: When the system is activated and its sensors detect traffic slowing ahead, your vehicle automatically slows to maintain the distance you’ve set. And when traffic has cleared, your vehicle resumes at the preset speed. Collision warning with brake support (included with adaptive cruise control) can alert you if it senses a potential collision with the car in front of you. A heads-up display, which simulates brake lights, flashes on the windshield. If you don’t react in time, the brakes will precharge and increase brake-assist sensitivity to provide full responsiveness when you do brake. Adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning with brake support are optional on Taurus Limited and SHO models.
